My game of the week for week two takes us to Ann Arbor as Texas will take on Michigan. This is an exciting matchup as Texas will get a chance to take down the defending champs at their place. After the performance from both teams in week one I’m confident that Texas can get the win on the road and move to 2-0 on the season.
Texas had one of the best season openers in Austin that I’ve seen in years. Colorado State sits in a Mountain West conference to not take lightly. My favorite takeaway from the game was the Texas defense. They allowed zero points and only gave up 74 passing yards. Jahdae Barron came down with one of the two interceptions which was one of the top highlights of the game.
We saw the struggle Michigan had offensively against another Mountain West team in Fresno State. The Wolverines could just muster up 118 passing yards as they tried to figure out their quarterback situation. This Texas defense is going to give them some trouble come Saturday. Michigan did only give up nine rushing yards, but this Texas RB room is deep and talented even with the injuries Texas has faced.
When it comes to the struggles that Michigan had on offense and the smooth flow Texas had going on defense, I just think the Horns will hold their own against both of the Wolverine quarterbacks. Michigan will have more success on the ground than in the air, but still, Texas will be a dominant force against the ground game as well.
Offensively, Texas did need to get out a few week-one jitters as the offensive line needed to wake up, receivers needed to squeeze the ball tighter, and Ewers had one weird tipped interception early on. Once the second quarter came around the Longhorns had things figured out and did not look like they were playing week one ball.
Quinn looked sharp and had some crazy highlights including a no-look pass to Matthew Golden. Our receiving room had a day with four receivers having over fifty yards and eleven players had at least one reception. The backs didn’t miss a beat with Gibson, Blue, and Wisner appearing to be a three-headed monster in the backfield. Our line was giving Quinn time in the pocket and creating gaps for our backs. All of these elements combined spell trouble for that Wolverine defense that did have success against Fresno State, but this Texas squad is a different story.
I’m not saying Texas will walk in there and blow them out. You can’t take Michigan lightly, even with that awkward week-one start, and especially not in Ann Arbor. Texas will control most of the game and end up winning by a comfortable margin. This is in the early slate and kicks off an exciting week two of CFB. The beers will be cold, and the nachos will be flowing as Texas handles business, staying perfect on the season.
Good analysis, don’t think Michigan has a shot with their QB situation in the air like it is.
