Tennessee and Oklahoma battling in Norman is my game of the week. This is a big game for the Vols and a bigger one for the Sooners. It’s Oklahoma’s first game against an SEC opponent while being a conference member. They need a good game played here against Tennessee as this Sooners team has looked a little suspect so far in the season.
Tennessee has looked very good on both sides of the ball. They have had zero issues against any of their opponents and this game will be their biggest test so far. The environment in Norman plus the fact this game is a night game is going to make it an even tougher matchup for the Vols.
That being said, I’m going to pick Tennessee to win this game. While the atmosphere will be electric I just don’t think this Oklahoma team will be the one to slow down Tennessee. The Volunteer offense is one of the best in the nation right now putting up the second most points in the entire country. Yes, Oklahoma’s defense will be the best they have played so far. Yes, Oklahoma’s defense is right in the middle of the pack in the SEC through week three.
So while this is the best defense Tennessee has played I still think they put up points, a lot of them. On the other side of things, Oklahoma’s offense has looked very underwhelming through week three. Right now they are sitting as the third least efficient offense in the SEC. That is not a good pairing with them about to go against one of the highest-rated defenses through three games in Tennessee.
With the efficiency on both sides of the ball from the Vols I just really have a tough time seeing the Sooners coming out on top in this one. If OU can keep it close I will be very surprised and tip my hat to them. While it is a home game the Vols fans travel and they will be in Norman with that hideous orange (burnt orange is honestly the best color out there).
My note to OU is best of luck and we’ll see you October 12th. Hook ‘em and give me the Vols coming out with the win in Norman.
