My game of the week for week one is in Gainesville on Saturday as Florida hosts Miami. There are a handful of good matchups nationwide, but I’m excited to see this Miami team put to the test already in week one. An in-state matchup, along with playing at “The Swamp,” will make for an awesome Florida weekend.
While this is an exciting game I think Miami will hold their own. High expectations are awaiting Cam Ward and the new-look Hurricanes. I like this game because I want to see Miami thrive in a hostile environment as early in the season as possible setting the tone as the leader in the ACC.
It’s easy to see why Florida has one of the country’s toughest schedules if they are starting week one against the Hurricanes. Cam Ward down to the Coral Gables was a huge win for Miami in the portal. Cristobal is entering year three with some excitement. Damian Martinez transferred in from Oregon State to join the team at RB. These two transfers will be behind a top-rated offensive line giving them big room for success.
Along with the above Miami also has a great receiving room. Xavier Restrepo returns and has a great cast around him making the offense even more dangerous. On the defensive side of the ball, the defensive line is where Miami shines. Reuben Bain Jr. had an insane freshman year and is ready to have an even better sophomore season. The list of awards goes on for decorated Bain Jr., he’ll be leading the defense for this impressive upcoming year.
The combination of this fast-paced offense and the talented defense should be enough for Mimai to be comfortable the entire game against Florida. I’m picking this as my game of the week because it’s my first chance to see what I think will be one of the most fun teams to watch this season. Playing in Gainesville isn’t easy, but I like this Miami team to win a lot of games this year, even the road trips.
