My Game of the Week: LSU @ South Carolina - Week Three

My game of the week takes us to Columbia, South Carolina where the Gamecocks will take on the LSU Tigers. On top of the exciting matchup, College GameDay will also be there.

This is a huge game for South Carolina as they could move to 3-0 with a win tomorrow afternoon. It’s also a big game for LSU as they are trying to avoid falling to a 1-2 start on the season.

I’m backing South Carolina to get a big win at home. Columbia is not an easy place to play and with Game Day there it’ll be even more electric.

Beamer and company will look to get the running game going early which is their game at this point in the season. The Gamecocks played a tough experienced Kentucky defense last week and were having a lot of fun out there.

LaNorris Sellers is a talented but inexperienced college quarterback. Last week he had himself a game on the road and helped lead his team to victory.

My thought is the LSU defense isn’t as good as the Kentucky defense and along with that South Carolina is at home which is why I’m so big on them in this one.

Garrett Nussmeier is a very talented quarterback but also doesn’t have much experience as a college starter like Sellers. This defense will be the toughest he has faced allowing only 44 passing yards last week.

Dylan Stewart is an absolute problem for opposing offenses and will be keeping Nussmieier up tonight, the night before the game. I’m a fan of this LSU receiving core, but I think the environment and the South Carolina defense will be too much for the LSU offense to handle.

This game will be a good one in the early slate and I have the Gamecocks coming out on top by a touchdown ish. As much as I’m not about looking ahead SC has Akron next week and with a win tomorrow and a win next week, they could be welcoming Lane Kiffin and his Rebels to Columbia in two weeks with a 5-0 start.

The pressure is on both sides here and the 16th-ranked SEC defense is going to have to step up if Nussmeier and their offense want to move to 2-1. This game would’ve been perfect in the late slate, but I’ll take it to open up the Saturday of week three.
